What this calculator works out

Pick your console and what you want out of it, and we will tell you the refresh rate and latency that implies, then show only the projectors with a published input lag figure at a stated resolution. A claim of low lag in game mode with no signal attached is not a measurement and does not appear here.

Is 4K at 60Hz or 1080p at 120Hz better?

For fast games, 120Hz. The extra smoothness is more visible than the extra pixels at normal seating distance, and most consoles let you choose per game. For slower games the 4K picture wins.

What lag figure should I accept?

Under 20 milliseconds at the resolution you will actually play at feels immediate to most people. Under 10 is competitive. The resolution matters: a projector can be fast at 1080p and slow at 4K, which is why we only show figures that name the signal.
