What this calculator works out

Tell us about the room rather than the projector. Length, wall width, ceiling height, where the projector can physically sit, what the screen is made of and when you actually watch. From that we work out the throw ratio a projector has to reach, the biggest screen the wall will take, how much light the room needs and how much lens shift the mounting position demands. Then we show the projectors in this market that meet all of it.

Why does the wall width matter more than the room's width?

Because the screen has to fit on a flat run of wall with nothing in the way. A wide room with a chimney breast in the middle of the screen wall has less usable width than its floor plan suggests, and that single measurement caps your screen size before any projector does.

What if I do not know the throw distance yet?

Leave it blank. We will still work out the screen size the wall allows and the brightness the room needs, and tell you which throw type suits the distances the room can offer. The throw ratio is the one output that genuinely needs the distance.

Why does it ask when I watch?

A projector that only ever runs after dark needs far less light than one used in the afternoon. If you watch at both times we use the harder case, because a projector that fails in daylight fails even if it is fine at night.
